We have been shortlisted to the final round of proposals for the 2021 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, and are now working on new iterations to possibly present Roofscapes in Seoul next summer! Given its focus on urban resilience, Roofscapes is tactically located at the crossroads of the Biennale’s five topics. We developed our entry for the Seoul Biennale together with Caroline Rosenzweig (MIT BSA ’20) who interned with us over the summer. Through this proposal, we’ve highlighted how Roofscapes could be deployed over six European cities that are experiencing the urban heat island effect and could rely on green roofs for climate mitigation.
Approaches like Roofscapes - which allow for tactical interventions on the urban fabric - represent a new way for architects to engage with the city. We believe that such approaches will be the key to building resilient cities in the 21st century, and we are thrilled at the possibility to contribute to this conversation at the 2021 SBAU.
